Job Description

Job Title:  District Foreman

Reports To: Superintendent Manager

Job Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Superintendent Manager exercises first line supervision over county maintenance/construction crews in a designated area of the county. Plans and schedules maintenance work and assigns work crews on a daily basis. Travels throughout the area to review road activities, advise and assist work crews or an individual employee, and note repairs on county road right-of-way.

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following major duties:  (these do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform).

 

 

Salary Range & Benefits: Union Contract

Hours Required: 40+

 

Major Duties

1. On a regular basis, meets/communicates with Superintendent Manager to discuss road problems and schedule maintenance and construction work.

2. Supervises a variable number of maintenance employees. Makes work assignments and gives instructions to employees. Reviews daily assignments of work crews and revises as necessary due to emergencies or absent employees.

3. Oversees employees for compliance with labor agreement and work rules.

4. Coordinates the removal of trash, animals, ect. On the state, county and local road systems.

5. Review and approve employee’s daily time cards and keep other records as needed/requested. Proficient in Microsoft Office specifically excel, word, and Outlook

6. Monitors work areas to review quality, safety, and efficiency of work operations.

7. Is on call for emergency conditions 24/7.

8. Prepares and calls in Miss Dig requests for work requiring the location of utilities on State, county and local road system.

9.  Performs various personnel functions such as training, counseling and disciplining employees and participates in making suggestions and recommendations as to hiring, firing, and promotion of employees he/she supervises.

10. Responsible for ice control, snow removal and grading and scraping of state, county and local roads. Makes regular and frequent inspections of road conditions to determine maintenance needs and to ensure that roads are adequately maintained.

11. DEQ Soil Erosion Certification & assist in DEQ Permit Applications with Engineering.

12. Will be called upon to fill in for truck driving and/or equipment operating duties.

13. All other duties as prescribed by the Superintendent Manager.

14. Responsible to make sure equipment assigned to district is properly used and kept clean

15. Develops and monitors long term maintenance plan in district
